The Animated Alphabet (ongoing)
Series of Fine Art Prints or Printed Flag Fabric
70 x 100cm (Edition: 3/3 + 1AP)

Veronika Hauer shows a series of posters that deal with the world in an ironic and critical way, mediation of language and the connection between language and body. The series can be read as a subliminal instruction to the viewer, so that the individual poster represents a performative request. Hauer uses historical pedagogical image material, because the absurdity of some pedagogical approaches becomes evident only with a timely distance. However, the entertaining note is also accompanied by discomfort on the opposite, because the drawings of children figuring individual letters show regulation and discipline in a double sense. Besides the absurdity of the reenactment and embodying of letters in themselves, the rigidity of the drawing shows the constraint of its educational enterprise on a second level.
